Center for Infectious Diseases
The challenges faced in infectious diseases of our time are manifold and the treatment of infectious diseases is becoming increasingly complex, requiring a broader range of clinical expertise. Pressing issues include the rise of multi-resistant pathogens, changes in the environment and care structures that have a major impact on the spread of infectious diseases, emergence of new infectious pathogens, increasing number of patients with severely compromised immune systems, and vaccine hesitancy.
Highly qualified physicians, innovative researchers and close collaboration between all stakeholders are needed to combat this. In order to further strengthen infectious diseases medicine research and the effective prevention, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases, the clinical departments, institutes and other specialized departments of the University Hospital Cologne working in the field of infectious diseases have joined forces in the Center for Infectious Diseases („Centrum für Infektionsmedizin“, CIM).
The aim of the CIM is to provide answers to the major questions in infectious diseases medicine through practice-changing research and to ensure optimal patient care. To achieve this, the Centrum promotes excellence in clinical and scientific education and training.
In the CIM, we focus on the patients. Through the close networking and cooperation of experts from a wide range of disciplines, we pool our expertise in infectious diseases to develop sustainable concepts and strategies in order to respond in a targeted manner to current and future challenges.
